How to Prepare for a Mobile Car Detail (5-Minute Checklist)

Mobile detailing means the detailer comes to your driveway with the products, machines and towels. What you provide is a hose spigot, a standard outdoor outlet, a place to park the car and about five minutes of prep. Here is exactly what to do before we arrive so the job goes faster and the result is better.

What you need to provide

Mobile detailers used to haul water tanks and generators. Most, including M&G, no longer do, because tank water runs out mid-job and generators are loud, heavy and expensive to run. Instead we plug into two things every house has:

If you live in a condo or apartment, check whether there is a spigot and outlet you can use and whether the property allows detailing in the lot. Plenty of our Stamford, Norwalk and Stratford clients are in complexes; it just takes a quick check first.

What you do not need to do

How long it takes

Plan around these windows so the car is not needed mid-job:

We confirm the real window when we quote, and our booking page only shows start times that actually fit the job.

Weather

Interior work happens in any weather. Exterior, correction and coating work needs a dry day above freezing, and coatings need roughly 50 degrees or a garage. If the forecast turns, we text you the day before and move the appointment at no charge. Light drizzle on an interior-only day is fine.

Multiple cars

If you have more than one car, book them together. We are already set up in the driveway, so each extra car costs less and takes less time than a separate visit. The booking form takes up to four cars per visit; for a bigger fleet, text us.

After the detail

Walk around the car with us before we pack up. If anything is not right, that is the moment to say so and we fix it on the spot. Then pay through the secure link we text you, or in the M&G app. Coated cars should stay dry overnight; everything else is ready to drive.

Quick Answers

Mobile Detailing Prep FAQ

Do I need to provide water and electricity for a mobile detail?

With M&G Detailing, yes: a standard outdoor hose spigot and a 120V outlet within about 100 feet of the car. We bring the hose, the cord and everything else. We no longer carry water tanks or generators because they run out and slow the job down.

Do I need to be home for a mobile car detail?

No. Leave the keys in an agreed spot or leave the car unlocked, make sure the spigot and outlet are accessible, and we text you when we arrive and when we finish. Most weekday jobs happen while the owner is at work.

Should I clean out my car before a detail?

Take out your personal items, bags and anything in the door pockets and console. You do not need to vacuum or wash anything; that is what you are paying for. Car seats are easier for us if they are out, but we can work around them.

Can a mobile detailer work in a condo or apartment parking lot?

Usually, if there is a spigot and an outlet within reach and the property allows it. Check with management first, then tell us where to park.

What if it rains on the day of my detail?

Interior work goes ahead in any weather. Exterior, paint correction and ceramic coating need a dry day, so we text you the day before and reschedule at no charge if the forecast turns.
